With the days of the calamity that had befallen on Haiti passing by, the fund-raising movement launched by Jinde Charities is moving into top gear.
By Feb.24, the kind donations contributed by the Catholic clergy and faithful in China has reached to more than 810,000RMB, and surprisingly, the amount keeps on increasing sharply every day.
The continuously increasing donations gives us a good sign that we, the Chinese, especially the Catholic clergy and faithful do have the compassion towards those who are suffering.
We could not comprehend fully the depth of sorrow the injured and traumatized survivors in Haiti have been experiencing and struggling with days past and days to come, but we can contribute money and other material objects they need most at the very moment to make their lives a little easier to lead.
"Please send us a tent" This is the very sentence I happened to see on a website which truly sunk my heart. It was said by a 43-year-old woman named Senita Mazile, in a rain-drenched camp, After Haiti 's first big rain since the earthquake, most of them have nowhere to hide themselves from the heavy downpour but use cardboards, sheets and any other available things to cover their heads.
With the generous help from the Catholic clergy and faithful we have obtained many donations for Haitians but still much remains to be done. Haitians faces many challenges in the coming days, and the coming months. The downpour last week foreshadows nothing but the beginning of the rain season and the coming suffering.
Suffering seems endless but human compassion is boundless. I am sure as long as we work hand in hand with those suffers, all troubles will be overcome in the end. I would like to quote one sentence from Letter from Kenya, written by Brother Alois to end this short passage, ¡°Where suffering intensifies, practical projects, which are all signs of hope, are frequently seen to be on the increase¡£¡±
