Bishop Zheng Shouduo Passed Away

Bishop Augustine Zheng Shouduo of Jiangzhou (Yuncheng) Diocese, Shanxi Province, passed away on July 16, 2006, at 5 am, at the age of 90.

The Life Story of Bishop Augustine Zheng Shouduo:

March 17: Born in Fenggeliang Village, Yangqu Town, Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan City.

1931: Entered the minor seminary in Taiyuan.

1934: Entered the major seminary in Xiazhuang, Taiyuan.

1944: Entered Jiangzhou (Yuncheng) Diocese as Latin teacher in the minor seminary.

1947: Entered St. Joseph Seminary for philosophy and theology.

March 13, 1949: Ordained to the priesthood.

April 1949: Incardinated into Jiangzhou Diocese as pastor of Puoli parish.

October 1964: Labeled as counterrevolutionary and sent to a labor camp

1979: Rehabilitated

September 23, 1982: Consecrated bishop by Bp. Han Tingbi, as the first bishop in the history of Jiangzhou Diocese

A Requiem Mass was celebrated on the 18th of this month in memory of Bishop Zheng, with all the clergy of the diocese participating.

The funeral is on July 25, at 8 am, in the cathedral.
